The following page is dedicated to "The
Greatest Trip of All Time". This excursion
occurred in June of 1997 when one of my close friends from high
school, Bobby Lane, needed to get across the country in the course
of a week and needed a driving companion. Little did he
ever expect that he was about to be driving with insomniac guy.
We ended up traveling from Birmingham, Alabama to Grants, New
Mexico (approx. 30 miles outside of the Arizona boarder)
in 26 hours of straight driving.
Along the way, we managed to stop at some of the greatest attractions
along Route 66 to throw a baseball around. Some of these
attractions include: Flying J Truck Stops, The Cadillac
Farm, The Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, and Yukon (Oklahoma).
The whole trip was a cleansing for both Bobby and me. My
only wish is that there was someway to capture
what happened on the trip in film. The only thing I can
say definitively is that the song "Horse with No Name"
makes a lot more sense to me now. Driving in the beautiful
Southwest brings a whole lot of perspective on life.
There is a soundtrack
that also goes along with this trip, but because it would take
about 37 CDs to offer the complete soundtrack we stopped trying
to market it.
